We are located close to Malin Head in north Donegal
At Whitestrand B&B you have a clear view of the picturesque Whitestrand Bay and Portronan Harbour against the backdrop of Knockamany bens. A few minutes drive takes you to the most Northerly Point of Ireland called Banba’s Crown, named after an early Pre-Christian Pagan Queen. From this elevated point you have a magnificent view of the surrounding area.
The Admiralty Tower at Banba’s Crown was built in 1805 as a Llyods Signal Station and was used as a lookout point in the two World Wars. From Banba’s Crown you can see both Tory and Inishtrahull Islands, Horn Head and Bloody Foreland. A medieval derelict church called the We House of Malin” dating back to the 16th Century is well worth a visit.
There are many beautiful beaches. The nearby Five Finger Strand has the largest sand dunes in Europe and here, at low tide, the wreck of the Twilight ship is clearly visible. A variety of activities are catered for within the local area: walking, diving, swimming, bird watching, surfing, horse riding and golfing. Catch a glimpse of basking sharks at nearby Portronan harbour or dolphins at play in Portmor harbour.
A famine village nearby will give you and insight into the harsh life our ancestors endured in the nineteenth century. The Seaview Tavern & Restaurant is highly recommended for a good meal with views over the ocean. The most northerly bar in Ireland is just a few minutes from the Whitestrand B&B.
